Hisar: The cyber police have arrested an alleged mastermind of a fraud case, in which calls were made to BJP leaders and govt officials in the name of Haryana minister Ranbir Gangwa. The accused, Rahul, a resident of Rajasthan’s Alwar district, was arrested and sent to judicial custody after questioning. Three people have now been arrested in connection with the case.Police have also added a provision related to destruction or concealment of SIM cards against the main accused. Rahul’s lawyer, Praveen Siwach, said two other accused, Tara Singh and Faizal Khan, had been granted bail by the court.According to the police investigation, Rahul allegedly posed as Gangwa and contacted several BJP leaders and govt officials. He reportedly called the superintending engineer of Public Health Engineering Department in Ambala and an official in Gurgaon, asking them to facilitate work for a person he claimed he was sending to them. Calls were also allegedly made to BJP district presidents of Panipat and Karnal.The calls raised suspicion as they came from a new number. The recipients subsequently contacted Gangwa to verify whether he had called them, leading to the alleged impersonation coming to light.The case was registered by Cyber Police in the last week of July following a complaint by the minister’s personal assistant.During the investigation, police allegedly found that the WhatsApp accounts associated with the numbers reportedly carried a photograph of Gangwa with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the display picture.Following the registration of the case, police arrested Tara Singh and Faizal Khan in Alwar area. During questioning, they allegedly told investigators that they had purchased the two SIM cards and handed them over to Rahul. Based on their statements and other investigations, police arrested Rahul.
