Noida: A large dump of garbage and sewage on a vacant plot opposite the local police chowki have raised hackles of Sector 72 residents.Residents have complained to Noida Authority about “persistent dumping”, which has created severe sanitation and public health concerns. They have demanded immediate removal of the waste, sanitisation of the site and measures to prevent fresh dumping.“This is not merely an inconvenience, it is a public health hazard that requires immediate attention,” president of RWA Satish Pandey said in a letter to Noida Authority general manager AK Arora. He added, “The accumulation of solid waste and sewage has turned the area into a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies, increasing the risk of dengue and malaria. It’s unbearable.On Tuesday morning, residents complained of a foul smell and unhygienic conditions. They said that the stench has made it difficult to pass through the area.The complaint comes amid broader concerns over sanitation in Noida, following the dismantling of the public health department, whose functions were distributed among different work circles. Resident bodies have repeatedly argued that the move has affected waste management and overall cleanliness of the city.Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations has also appealed to Noida Auhtority for the restoration of the department. “Noida is home to us all and keeping it clean and beautiful is our collective responsibility. Reviving the public health department is essential for the city’s health and environment,” Sector 105 RWA president Divya Krishnatrey said.Responding to the complaint, Arora said a sanitation team was sent to clear the site. Residents, however, said they were looking for a permanent solution to prevent the dumping from recurring.
