Abohar: A day after a veterinarian was found murdered with his face crushed in a bungalow in Abohar, police on Monday arrested three men from his village, Gidranwali.Police did not disclose details of the crime, its motive or whether the weapon used in the murder had been recovered.Despite the arrests, deceased Amandeep Singh’s family protested outside Abohar civil hospital, alleging the probe was inadequate and that he had earlier received threats from drug smugglers.His brother, Ramandeep Singh, said the family had refused to consent to the postmortem and demanded suspension of the Khuian Sarwar police station SHO, alleging no action was taken despite Amandeep informing police about drug peddlers.Ramandeep said the family had recorded a video about alleged drug smuggling around a week ago and subsequently received threats. The family had also lodged a police complaint, he said, alleging timely action could have prevented the murder.Abohar 2 police station SHO Ravinder Singh and Khuian Sarwar SHO Paramjit Singh met the protesting family. Responding to the allegations, they said action would be taken against anyone else named in the family’s statement if the investigation found incriminating evidence.Police identified the arrested men as Gidranwali residents Manish Kumar, Sajan Singh and Jagmeet Singh. The SHOs, however, did not reveal any other details about the suspects and if they were involved in the drug trade.The murder FIR has also been registered at Khuian Sarwar police station.Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar, Congress functionaries Sudhir Bhadu and Subhash Baghla, and former AAP constituency in-charge Deep Kamboj joined the protest and criticised the Punjab govt over law and order and the drug menace. Farmer leaders Sukhjinder Singh Rajan and Sukhmander Singh also supported the family’s demands.The sit-in continued till the filing of this report.
