Noida: The district administration has appointed block education officers (BEOs) in Jewar, Dadri and Dankaur after long-standing vacancies hampered monitoring of govt schools, and the district’s performance under the NIPUN Bharat Mission slipped to 70th in the 2025-26 annual assessment.In the assessment conducted in March, only 123 of the 420 govt schools in the district — around 29% — achieved NIPUN status, when 330 (87%) of 378 schools had met the benchmark for foundational literacy and numeracy among students in classes 1 to 4 in 2024-25. Officials said dedicated BEOs would allow closer review of students’ proficiency in foundational language and mathematics, while enabling teachers to receive timely academic support.The NIPUN, or National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy, report analyses how well students (in classes 1-4) are achieving in foundational literacy (reading, writing, understanding) and numeracy skills (basic maths).The three blocks, along with Bisrakh, have around 80,000 students, but have until now been largely managed by a single BEO, making regular school inspections and follow-up on academic and administrative issues difficult. Officials said the shortage had affected monitoring of teacher attendance, classroom activities, student learning levels and implementation of govt schemes.BSA Rahul Panwar said the three newly appointed BEOs — Sunil Dutt Mugdal, Yashpal Singh and Pop Singh — will now oversee the respective blocks. “Having dedicated BEOs at the block level will help streamline the implementation and monitoring of govt schemes. Officers will be able to regularly visit schools, review academic progress, identify gaps and ensure that instructions and interventions reach schools on time. This will ultimately help improve the quality of education and learning outcomes,” Panwar said.The department is also planning ‘Shiksha Chaupal’, a village-level consultation programme involving parents, teachers, students and residents. Backed by a budget of more than Rs 3 lakh, the initiative will focus on improving education quality, addressing local issues and boosting enrolment in govt schools.
