Pune: A cybercrook posing as a steel supplier duped a real estate developer from Pimple Saudagar of Rs6.5 lakh on the pretext of supplying him with steel at a cheaper rate.The fraud took place between Sept 8 and 11. A case was registered with Sangvi police on Sunday.An officer from Sangvi police said, “On Sept 8, the crook contacted the complainant online and claimed that he was a steel supplier based in Bidar, Karnataka. The crook promised the complainant that he would supply steel at a cheaper rate. To gain the complainant’s confidence, he sent a fake GSTIN registration certificate and invoices.”The complainant believed the crook and transferred Rs6.5 lakh to a bank account provided by him. “He realised he had been duped when the crook stopped responding to his calls. He also found that no such steel supply firm existed in Bidar. The complainant then lodged a complaint with the police,” the officer said.
