Happy Passia’s mother arrested over Ajnala village grenade attack; sister on the run

Amritsar: Amritsar rural police have arrested Harpinder Kaur, mother of gangster-turned-terrorist Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, in connection with the Aug 21 grenade attack on a house in Jattan village of Ajnala, and secured her two-day police remand. Her daughter and Passia’s sister, Kirandeep Kaur, is on the run.Passia is reported to be in US custody.Amritsar rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said an investigation was underway and more arrests were likely.Police have formed four teams, including personnel from the CIA, to investigate the attack. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and mobile tower locations to establish the movements and route of the suspected attackers.Police sources said the motorcycle-borne suspects may have fled towards Himachal Pradesh via Ramdas after the attack.On Aug 21, two masked men allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and hurled two grenades at a house in Jattan village. The explosions damaged the house and injured three people, who were later discharged from hospital after treatment.The incident was initially being investigated as a possible fallout of a family dispute linked to the village sarpanch election involving Passia’s family. Police are now examining multiple angles, including personal and gangster-related rivalry.Forensic teams have examined the scene and collected evidence to determine the nature of the explosive devices. Police have also questioned members of the affected family and local residents.
