Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has taken disciplinary action against five colleges where copying cases during various examinations held in summer were detected. These colleges acted as exam centres for engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA and other courses. A review of CCTV footage from these centres after the exam showed students openly copying without any action from invigilators. The colleges are Arpit College in Rajkot, HP Patel College in Lunawada, Dadhichi College in Junagadh, Mandvi Education Trust’s college in Surat and Vasudev College in Kadi. These colleges have been fined and their status as exam centres cancelled for a year.Arpit College has been fined Rs 3 lakh; HP Patel College, Dadhichi College and Vasudev College have each been fined Rs 1 lakh; and Mandvi Education Trust’s college has been fined Rs 2 lakh.GTU examination department officials clarified that the cases do not necessarily involve all students at a centre copying. However, the footage established that students were openly indulging in copying and the invigilators failed to prevent or report the malpractice. The university has therefore decided that these colleges will not be allotted examination centres for the next one year. Students enrolled at these institutions will have to appear for GTU examinations at other designated centres, officials said.In an earlier action, GTU also punished 331 students found guilty of examination malpractice.
