Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Wednesday arrested the personal assistant to the Additional District Magistrate (Jaipur East) for allegedly accepting a Rs 1 lakh bribe from a contractor to clear pending govt payments.The accused was caught red-handed during a trap laid by the ACB’s Jaipur Rural unit inside his office. Investigators said the bribe was part of an alleged demand of Rs 1.5 lakh made to process bills related to a firm’s work of providing vehicles for govt examinations.ACB director general Govind Gupta said the complainant approached the agency alleging that the official had demanded money to clear pending payments. The complaint was discreetly verified, during which investigators confirmed the alleged demand for illegal gratification.Following the verification, the ACB laid a trap and arrested the accused while he was allegedly accepting Rs 1 lakh from the complainant in his office. Officials said the operation was carried out by a team from the Jaipur Rural unit under the supervision of senior ACB officers.The bureau said the accused was working as the personal assistant to the Additional District Magistrate (Jaipur East) and allegedly used his position to seek illegal gratification for processing official work.A case has been registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the accused is being questioned. Investigators are also examining whether similar demands were made from other contractors or individuals seeking clearance of government payments.The ACB said searches and further investigation are underway to ascertain whether the accused acted alone or if others were involved in the alleged bribery. Officials added that records relating to the pending payments and the processing of the bills are being scrutinised as part of the probe.
