Man held for killing brother over property dispute

Noida: A 47-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing his 50-year-old elder brother in Neemka village in Jewar early Monday morning, police said. The accused, Devendra, was arrested from the Charauli underpass in Jewar.The deceased, Bhole Shankar, was found dead near his farm on Monday morning. Police said he was sleeping on a cot near the field when Devendra allegedly attacked him with a spade. The weapon was later recovered from a spot near the crime scene.Bhole’s family found his body around 6 am and alerted police. A team from Jewar police station reached the spot and began an investigation.Police initially suspected that a property dispute between the brothers may have led to the murder. However, during the investigation, police found that the two also had strained relations over a family dispute and had allegedly quarrelled several times in the past.Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area and allegedly found Devendra near the farm around 3 am. He was then seen leaving the area, following which police began tracing him.“It was revealed that the suspect used to fight with his brother in the past as well. However, early Tuesday morning, he allegedly decided to kill him,” a police officer said.Police said they are questioning Devendra to establish the sequence of events and determine the exact motive behind the attack. The circumstances leading up to the murder are also being examined.A case of murder has been registered at Jewar police station. Devendra was produced before a court after his arrest and sent to judicial custody.Shankar is survived by his wife and two children. His body was sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
