Silchar: The bodies of a woman and her four-year-old son were fished out of Barak river on Tuesday, four days after they went missing after allegedly jumping from Annapurnaghat bridge.The bodies of Diya Akura, a resident of Chotodudhpatil in Silchar, and her son were recovered near Ganirgram in Cachar district. Akura was reportedly the president of a local self-help group (SHG).According to police, the two went missing around 4.30 pm on Friday after Akura completed bank-related work with SHG members. She later left the group and is suspected to have gone to Annapurnaghat bridge with her son.The boy’s body was found tied to his mother’s waist, sources said. It is suspected to be a case of suicide.The State Disaster Response Force launched a search operation in Barak after their disappearance. Residents spotted the bodies floating near Ganirgram in Katigorah on Tuesday and alerted police.Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the deaths.
