Guwahati: Assam plans to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) tools in schools to identify learning deficiencies, track students at risk of dropping out and support teachers, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.The initiative will help students address learning gaps early, stay engaged and receive timely academic support.Sharing a roadmap for AI use in classrooms on ‘X’, Sarma said the technology would make education more “intelligent, inclusive and student-centric”.“The future of education is intelligent, inclusive and student-centric,” Sarma said, adding that AI would help classrooms identify learning gaps early, flag students at risk of dropping out, strengthen foundational learning and equip teachers with smarter tools.The proposed deployment includes AI-powered attendance and student-tracking systems to monitor attendance patterns and identify students needing additional attention. The systems could also analyse attendance and other indicators to flag students at risk of dropping out, enabling timely intervention by teachers and school authorities.The govt plans to explore AI-assisted lesson support to supplement classroom instruction. AI-based reading-fluency assessments would evaluate students’ reading abilities and identify areas for improvement.An AI chatbot for periodic assessments is also proposed to support regular evaluation and provide inputs on students’ learning progress.Sarma said the broader objective was to strengthen foundational learning while empowering teachers and students. AI, he said, could help equip children with confidence and skills to thrive.The measures signal Assam’s push to integrate emerging technologies into school education, focusing on student progress, assessment and teacher support.
