Ponda: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to hold the annual matoli bazaar at its traditional place, Budhwar Peth.PMC chairperson Virendra Dhavalikar said that they are waiting for govt directives regarding the exemption of sopo to the matoli vendors.Last year, chief minister Pramod Sawant had promised exemption of sopo to them, however a delay to issue a circular has created uncertainty over the promise.Budhwar Peth is more convenient as people coming from neighbouring villages can catch a bus easily. “Most of the villagers come to the bazaar by public transport. These people have to catch buses with a load of huge quantities of goods and for them the present place is more feasible,” said Dhavalikar.All the items used for the matoli and Ganesh Chaturthi celebration are sold at the matoli bazaar.
