Coast Guard airlifts 9 fishermen after boat develops snag mid-sea

Surat: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel rescued nine fishermen from Navsari, including the owner of the fishing boat, after the vessel developed a technical fault and became stranded at sea.The incident occurred after the fishing boat Jaymala departed from Krishnapur village in Jalalpore taluka of Navsari district on Tuesday morning and was heading towards Valsad. The boat was carrying nine people, including its owner, Deepak Tandel.After travelling around 2.5 nautical miles from Dholai port, the engine of the boat developed a snag and shut down. The fishermen subsequently issued a distress call seeking assistance.Navsari district administration immediately launched a rescue operation under the direction of district collector Manish Gurwani. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team was alerted and dispatched to Dholai port.However, considering the circumstances, the administration decided that the fishermen needed to be airlifted. Gurwani contacted the Coast Guard DIG and arranged for a helicopter to carry out the rescue.The operation was conducted in coordination with the mamlatdar at Jalalpore and Coast Guard officials. A Coast Guard helicopter successfully airlifted the nine fishermen and brought them safely to shore.
