Ludhiana: Around 25 persons allegedly attacked a religious place and assaulted a youth following a dispute over alleged drug peddling in the area.Police have registered a case against around 30 persons, including six identified as Aryan, Pawan Balyan, Shera, Mulla, Deepu and Suraj, all residents of EWS Colony. A case has also been registered against 20 to 25 unidentified persons.According to area residents, including Chanderpaul, the dispute began after locals allegedly objected to some people selling drugs in the colony. They claimed that community elders had repeatedly asked the accused not to engage in drug peddling in the area.Residents alleged that on July 6, the accused returned to the colony with several associates armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons. They allegedly pelted stones and damaged the windows of the religious place, besides attacking 20-year-old Gaurav. He sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital.A video of the incident, purportedly showing several armed men carrying swords and other weapons, has also surfaced.
