Man duped of Rs 22 lakh on promise of cheaper car loan

Ludhiana: A Janata Nagar resident has been booked for allegedly duping a man of over Rs 22 lakh on the pretext of getting his car loan transferred to a public sector bank at a lower interest rate.The accused, Harveer Singh, was booked by Division No. 6 police following a complaint by Gaurav Sharma of Basant Avenue.According to the complainant, he had purchased a Mahindra Scorpio-N on loan from a private bank in Sept 2025. Harveer, who was known to him, allegedly offered to get the loan shifted to a public bank at a cheaper rate of interest. He purportedly took Rs 20 lakh for loan closure and another Rs 2.8 lakh towards processing and other charges.However, the accused neither arranged the fresh loan nor returned the money, Sharma alleged. After an enquiry into a complaint filed in April this year, police registered a case under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(2) (cheating) of the BNS.
