Gurgaon: An 82-year-old man died after a trailer truck allegedly travelling on the wrong side hit him while he was crossing a road with his cattle near Nimoth bus stand in Sohna on Wednesday.The accident occurred around 4.30pm on Aug 5 under the Sadar Sohna police station area. The victim, Shishram, was a resident of Nimoth village.According to a complaint lodged by his nephew, Ravinder, Shishram was returning home when the trailer, travelling from Faridabad towards Sohna, approached at high speed. Ravinder alleged that the driver moved onto the wrong side of the road, hit the elderly man and dragged him for nearly 20-30 metres before the vehicle came to a halt. The driver fled after abandoning the vehicle. Shishram died on the spot.After receiving a Dial 112 call, police reached the spot and found the victim trapped beneath the trailer. The body was shifted to Sohna Civil Hospital for autopsy. An FIR was registered under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash or negligent driving) of BNS.“We are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to ascertain the circumstances that caused the accident. A notice has been issued to the vehicle owner,” a police officer said.Ravinder said the stretch has witnessed several accidents because of speeding vehicles. “We have repeatedly requested the authorities to construct a speed breaker on this road. After my uncle’s death, we raised the demand again,” he told TOI.In another accident later the same night, a delivery executive was injured after a Mahindra Thar allegedly rammed his electric scooter from behind on Old Delhi Road near Chaupal Hotel under the Sector 14 police station area.The victim, Manu, who lives in a paying guest accommodation in Rajiv Nagar, was on his way to Prem Nagar to deliver a food order around 10.30pm when the accident occurred.According to his complaint, the white Thar hit his scooter from behind at high speed, throwing him onto the road. Police reached the spot after receiving a Dial 112 call, but the injured had already been shifted to Aastha Hospital. The Thar was found abandoned at the scene and was seized.After treatment, doctors declared Manu fit to give his statement. Manu alleged that another person was also injured in the collision.Based on Manu’s complaint and his medico-legal report, an FIR was registered under sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 125(b) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety) of BNS. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the driver, police said.
