Panaji: Goa police have offered to develop a digital platform to capture and authenticate the details and documents of customers hiring rental vehicles, in line with permit conditions prescribed by the transport department.The proposal was discussed at a meeting with rent-a-car and rent-a-bike operators on Monday, chaired by DGP Alok Kumar, to strengthen coordination between the police, transport department and rental vehicle industry. Responding to Kumar’s suggestion, operators agreed to use the platform to authenticate documents submitted by customers.The meeting also addressed the unauthorised rental of private vehicles, with police assuring strict action against offenders.On the issue of rental operators having to pay traffic fines in different jurisdictions across Goa, transport department officials agreed to examine the possibility of centralising challan payments by rental agencies to spare them the need to travel across the state.Operators were also advised to record customer details as required under transport department policy, ensure courteous behaviour towards tourists and install GPS devices in all their vehicles.
