Aizawl: Representatives of major political parties and civil society groups in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) have opposed the sidelining of the council’s elected representatives from the Independence Day event at Kamalanagar, the CADC headquarters. They expressed concern that the Mizoram government had not designated an elected representative from the state or the CADC to preside over the 80th Independence Day celebration and hoist the national flag on Saturday. At a joint meeting in Kamalanagar on Thursday, the representatives expressed disappointment over the decision to assign the sub-divisional officer (civil), Chawngte, to hoist the national flag instead of an elected dignitary from the state or the CADC.The meeting unanimously appealed to Mizoram governor Gen VK Singh to intervene and request the authorities to reconsider the arrangement.
