Ludhiana: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) organised a training camp and live demonstration for the workforce of the World Bank and AIIB-funded canal-based surface water supply project. The safety drive was designed to upgrade emergency preparedness, build resilience, and equip staff members, engineers, supervisors, and workers with lifesaving skills for handling disaster situations directly at project sites.The field workforce received hands-on tactical training in one-man rescue using the crutch technique, bleeding control methods, and the first-aid management of arm dislocation injuries. NDRF personnel also demonstrated critical medical response procedures, specifically focusing on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and the quick assembly of improvised emergency stretchers for rapid casualty evacuation.The awareness programme extended to larger-scale natural disasters, with special emphasis laid on earthquake and flood management protocols. The team detailed practical survival techniques, structural evacuation procedures, and safety steps to adopt before, during, and after seismic events. It also highlighted risk-minimisation approaches to ensure public safety during severe flooding.The training aligns with international workplace standards. Emphasising its structural importance, SE Parul Goyal stated: “Regular safety training and capacity-building programmes form an integral part of the project’s environmental, social, health, and safety framework.”
