Noida: A 40-year-old man was killed and his wife seriously injured after a speeding Thar rammed their scooter near Itaira roundabout in Bisrakh area on Monday evening.The deceased, Neeraj Srivastav, was a lawyer practising in Supreme Court and lived in Chipiyana. Passersby informed police about the accident. A team reached the spot and rushed the injured couple to a hospital, where Neeraj succumbed to his injuries while his wife continues to undergo treatment.The Thar was abandoned by its occupants after the accident. Police have seized the car and are trying to identify the driver.Neeraj’s elder brother, Amit Kumar, alleged that the Thar was being driven on the wrong side of the road and at a high speed when it crashed into his brother’s scooter. He alleged Neeraj was driving in his lane and had no role in causing the accident.“The video of the incident confirms this,” Amit said.Amit said Neeraj’s wife remained in critical condition following the crash. “My sister-in-law is currently in a coma. The entire left side of her body has become paralysed. She has suffered over 10 fractures. Her pelvic region has been completely crushed and she has already undergone multiple surgeries. The medical bills are mounting and have already reached Rs 7 lakh,” he said.He also alleged that eyewitnesses at the spot claimed that some of those travelling in the Thar had been drinking. “Eyewitnesses claim that the occupants were drunk. There were four boys in the vehicle,” Amit claimed.Station house officer of Bisrakh police station Ranjeet Kumar Singh said CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to establish how the accident occurred and determine the speed of the Thar.Police said a complaint from the victim’s family was being obtained and a case would be registered accordingly.
