Noida: A property dispute within the family has emerged as a key allegation following the deaths of Mahesh, his wife Lalita and their three children at their home in Nagla Padam village. The couple’s relatives have alleged that Mahesh’s mother, Chandravati, transferred family land and houses to her three daughters, leaving Mahesh and his family distressed about their future. The allegations have not been established. “This is not food poisoning; it is murder. My sister’s sister-in-law and her husband orchestrated the deaths over a property dispute,” alleged Pooja, Lalita’s sister.Other relatives of the couple have also accused Chandravati and one of her daughters of involvement in the deaths. They claimed disputes over property had become frequent and that Chandravati had repeatedly asked Mahesh and his family to vacate their house.A relative, Satendra Jatav, alleged that Chandravati had threatened to make the family leave and said the property would go to her daughters. Neighbours, too, claimed that arguments were frequent within the household.Police said Mahesh worked odd jobs to support his family, which comprised his mother, wife and three children. He had three married sisters and an elder brother, Rahul, who died by suicide in 2019. Relatives alleged that he, too, had been distressed over the distribution of family property.Lalita’s brother, Sonu, said Chandravati had inherited property both from her husband and from her maternal family in Rabupura. The family’s property history dates back to the early 2000s, when Mahesh’s father, Kishan Lal, originally from Khera Kalan village in Delhi’s Narela, bought around 10 bighas of land in Nagla Padam, described by relatives as Chandravati’s maternal village. In 2009, the family received compensation of around Rs 1.25 crore from Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), along with a plot under its 7% developed-plot scheme. Mahesh’s relatives alleged that the compensation and plot benefits went to the couple’s three daughters, leaving their two sons without a share. Sonu, however, said the funds were used to build a house in Rabupura after Mahesh’s marriage in 2017. Mahesh began living there with Lalita, and Chandravati moved in about a year before the deaths.Relatives alleged that after Kishan Lal’s death in 2023, Chandravati transferred the family’s ancestral house in Delhi to two of her daughters. They further claimed that she sold a 167-sq-metre house in Nagla Padam on Aug 18, 2025. According to the relatives, around six months ago, she also transferred about 10 bighas of land to one of her daughters and her husband, as well as the house in which Mahesh’s family was living.Sonu said Mahesh and his family had visited his home about 10 days before their deaths, and everything had appeared normal. The families had also spoken on the phone two days earlier, without any mention of trouble or distress.Rahul’s wife, Neeraj, said she had been forced to leave the family home after her husband’s death and was not allowed to keep her 14-year-old daughter there. She now lives with her daughter in a rented house.“Mahesh used to say, ‘My brother is gone, but I won’t deprive you of your share. I will ensure you get what is rightfully yours.’ My mother-in-law always takes her daughters’ side,” Neeraj said, describing Mahesh and Lalita as good people. The allegations of a property dispute and involvement in the deaths remain unverified. Police said the postmortem and forensic findings would help establish the cause of death and determine whether any criminal act was involved.
