Varanasi: Sonbhadra police on Monday arrested three persons and seized 1 quintal 340 grams of ganja worth around Rs 50 lakh during a vehicle-checking drive in the Preetnagar area.The accused were identified as Mukund Yadav (24) and Rohit Sidar (23), both residents of Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh, and Ashish Maurya (19), a resident of Mirzapur district.According to police, a tip-off was received that a suspicious car had entered the service lane near the bridge leading towards Obra.Police cordoned off the area, intercepted the vehicle and detained its three occupants. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered 93 packets of ganja weighing 1 quintal 340 grams.During interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that the contraband had been procured from Odisha and was to be delivered to a person in Mirzapur district.A case was subsequently registered at Chopan police station under Sections 8, 20, 27A, 29 and 60 of the NDPS Act.The vehicle used for transporting the contraband was also seized. Police said efforts were underway to identify others linked to the network and take appropriate legal action.
