Ghaziabad: Two youths were detained on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a man in Khoda for befriending women from another religion using a different name. The accused also recorded a clip of the assault and shared it on social media.Police took cognisance of the 41-second video that putportedly showed the victim being thrashed by more than five youths. An officer said efforts were on to trace the other accused.In the video, the accused are seen holding the victim and pushing him to the ground. They later restrain him, take him to a cot, hold him down and beat him up with a stick.Police said the video was recorded by the attackers. It was posted on Instagram and circulated widely across other social media platforms. The officer said they are also trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the role of each person involved. They are also examining the original video and other available information to find out when and where in Khoda the incident took place.ACP (Indirapuram) Suryabali Maurya said police had taken cognisance of the viral video and initiated an investigation. Krishna and Rishi have been detained and are being questioned. He said further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Police are also verifying the authenticity and context of the video before proceeding against those found responsible.The detained youths said they attacked the victim because he was luring and influencing girls from other religions to strike up a relationship with him.
