CHANDIGARH: Punjabi social media influencer Manjeet Kaur’s 54-day ordeal began with her alleged abduction from Chandigarh and ended with her death at PGIMER, after she was allegedly taken to a forested area near Morinda, tied to a tree and set on fire.According to a complaint by her mother, Kanta Devi, Kaur was allegedly called to Sector 34 in Chandigarh by two acquaintances, Shubhi and Pinda, on the intervening night of July 3 and 4.They allegedly assaulted her, forced her into a vehicle and took her to a forested area near Morinda, where they allegedly tied her to a tree and set her on fire before fleeing.Another acquaintance later reached the spot and reportedly extinguished the flames using a blanket.Kaur was first taken to a hospital in Morinda for treatment. She was later shifted to Max Hospital in Mohali and subsequently to PGIMER in Chandigarh with severe burn injuries.She remained under treatment at PGIMER for nearly two months before dying on August 26.After Kaur regained consciousness during her treatment, she reportedly sought to have her statement recorded.The PGI police post informed Kharar Sadar police that she was conscious and in a condition to give her statement, sources said.A daily diary report regarding the communication was also recorded at the PGI police post.
What all happened
Following Kaur’s death on August 26, the PGI police post again sent a communication to Kharar Sadar police.Her mother subsequently approached Chandigarh Police. Kanta Devi was taken to the Sector 34 police station, where her statement was recorded and an FIR for abduction and murder was registered on August 27.Kaur’s postmortem was conducted at PGI on August 28, after which her body was handed over to her family.Kaur was a Punjabi social media influencer with around 1.46 lakh followers on Instagram. Her posts included reels promoting cosmetic products and videos featuring popular Punjabi and Haryanvi songs.She also had a YouTube channel with around 3,930 subscribers, where she also posted family vlogs.Kaur reportedly lived in Sunny Enclave, while her mother and brother reside in Sector 19, Panchkula.
