Amritsar: The counter-intelligence (CI) wing of Amritsar police has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of four persons and seizure of 20kg heroin, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.The heroin had allegedly been retrieved from the Indo-Pak border area near Rajatal village in Tarn Taran after being sent across the border by drones, Yadav said. Police also seized two motorcycles from the accused.With the latest seizure, CI Amritsar has seized 74kg heroin in the past week, including earlier seizures of 27kg, 10kg and 17kg, Yadav said.Preliminary investigation revealed that the module was being operated by a Dubai-based drug smuggler in coordination with Punjab-based associates and foreign-based smugglers, the DGP said.Acting on a specific input, CI teams intercepted the four near Dana Mandi, Satlani Sahib Gurdwara, where they were allegedly coming to deliver a consignment.Further investigation is underway to establish the network’s backward and forward linkages. An FIR under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station, Amritsar.
