Gurgaon: HVPNL has started the process of shifting two 66kV bays at its Sector 33 substation to clear land required for the upcoming metro depot project.The bays and associated electrical equipment obstruct the planned entry point connecting the proposed metro depot with the Millennium City Centre-Cyber City corridor. HVPNL is shifting the equipment to another part of the substation to make the land available to Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) for the depot.The work is estimated to cost around Rs 38 lakh and involves relocating the two 66kV bays and associated equipment, including circuit breakers and current transformers. Although the work has been allotted five months, officials said efforts would be made to complete it earlier.“We have started the process of engaging an agency to shift the electrical infrastructure, and we are targeting Jan to complete it,” said Anil Malik, executive engineer, HVPNL.The shifting is part of the preparatory work to make around 400 square metres of land at the substation available for the metro depot. The depot has been proposed over around 53 acres in Sector 33, with its construction estimated to cost around Rs 409 crore. The agency for the civil construction of the depot is yet to be finalised by GMRL as it awaits the state govt’s approval.The utility work comes amid efforts to clear a 2.2km stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bharadwaj Chowk for metro construction. This section is part of Phase I of the Cyber City metro corridor. Last month, NHAI, DHBVNL and HVPNL were directed to fast-track their work and hand over a clear corridor to GMRL.NHAI is redeveloping the 2.2km stretch on behalf of GMDA. Several utility-shifting works are still pending. NHAI has to shift feeder lines, while a 1,600mm water pipeline and other utilities are yet to be relocated. HVPNL has to shift 66kV overhead lines, while DHBVN has to shift 17 feeders and dismantle existing lines. NHAI also has to complete and commission the Sector 10 substation.Meanwhile, construction on Phase I of the metro corridor, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is progressing gradually, with around 15% of the civil work completed so far.The 15.3km Phase I is scheduled for completion in 2028 at a cost of Rs 1,277 crore. It will have 14 elevated stations — Millennium City Centre, Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai and Sector 9 — along with a spur from Basai to Sector 101 on Dwarka Expressway.
