Design of underpass at Parthala Bridge in Noida

Noida: Noida Authority has sent the detailed project report for a six-lane underpass beneath Parthala flyover to IIT Roorkee for technical vetting, taking forward a key project to unclog one of the city’s busiest traffic bottlenecks. Estimated to cost Rs 92 crore, the 710-metre underpass is expected to be completed within 18 months of construction, which is likely to begin by Dec.Parthala roundabout is where traffic from Vikas Marg and Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) road converges. The junction connects sectors 52 and 71 with Gaur Chowk, while FNG corridor links Sorka village to Chhajarsi Colony and provides access to Ghaziabad, NH-9 and Delhi-Meerut Expressway.“The DPR for the underpass beneath the Parthala Signature Bridge on FNG route has been sent to IIT Roorkee for technical vetting. The process of appointing a developer will begin once the institute’s report is received,” said AK Arora, general manager at Noida Authority. The 600-metre, six-lane Parthala flyover opened in 2023 to improve connectivity between Noida and Greater Noida West. Congestion, however, persists at the roundabout below, where traffic police often have to regulate vehicle movement manually during morning and evening peak hours. The pressure is expected to rise further once the FNG Expressway is completed and provides a direct link between Noida and Faridabad. The underpass will have three lanes in each direction and is expected to benefit residents of sectors 119, 120, 121 and 122, Chhijarsi and adjoining areas. Two sumps and a pumping system will drain rainwater. Construction will use diaphragm walls and cast-in-situ reinforced cement concrete (RCC), with the walls designed to protect the stability of surrounding structures and land.“Parthala roundabout has become a major traffic bottleneck, particularly during peak hours. We often have to wait for long periods as vehicles from Vikas Marg and FNG road converge here. The underpass will significantly ease the situation,” said Mukesh Kumar, a Greater Noida West resident.
