Siliguri/Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on Trinamool and Left and accused opposition parties of joining hands to destabilise the country and conspiring to spread anarchy in India, alleging that they wanted to turn India into Bangladesh.Speaking at a BJP rally in Siliguri, Adhikari challenged the opposition to defeat BJP in elections and expressed confidence that the party would win the upcoming civic polls in Kolkata, Howrah and Siliguri.“All the defeated netas have come together in Delhi. They want India to become like Bangladesh with Jamaat, fundamentalists, ‘Dimagi Naxals’, Maoists, terrorists and slogans like ‘Kashmir wants freedom’. The Communists and the netas who have been wiped out in Bengal, the aunt and nephew, are going to Delhi and trying to create instability,” he said.

Defending SIR, the CM referred to Mamata Banerjee’s Ramlila Maidan speech, “Nobody invites her to any programme these days, not even at the inauguration of a Durga Puja. She accused the Election Commission of vote theft. While the Union government and EC are making all efforts to clean the voters’ list of illegal infiltrators, Mamata and Rahul Gandhi are making all efforts to protect them,” he said.BJP general secretary and actress-turned-politician Smriti Irani, who was in Kolkata on Tuesday, also launched a scathing attack on the Mamata-led former TMC regime in Bengal, accusing it of facilitating the settlement of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in the state. This was allowed so that they became TMC’s dedicated vote bank, she claimed.“As for Congress, it has been a habit to blame EC after every electoral defeat,” Irani said.Taking a swipe at Congress and several regional parties, Adhikari accused them of promoting dynastic politics and corruption. “The corrupt Congress and these parties are all 4G, 3G and 2G parties. For Modi-ji, the nation comes first and the nation comes last.”Irani and Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya asked why Mamata was yet to walk in a protest jointly with Adhir Chowdhury of Congress and Md Salim of CPM in Bengal. “Trinamool has trampled democracy in Bengal, attacked BJP workers, assaulted women party workers. Her nephew (Abhishek) is still giving threats,” Irani said.Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Irani stated, “He does not have the strength to fight alone, so he has to depend on other opposition parties.”“The country had undergone SIR 12 times between 1952 and 2025. At least 10 of these were conducted when Congress was in office. Congress lost the Lok Sabha election in 2024 when Gyanesh Kumar was not chief election commissioner,” she added.Citing draft electoral roll data, Irani said there were around three crore dead voters, one crore duplicate or fake entries, three crore absent voters and nearly six crore people whose addresses had changed.
