Ludhiana: Three burglars struck at a marriage palace built on panchayat land under the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Scheme about five years ago. They allegedly stole 125 ceiling fans, an inverter, solar system batteries, 16 chairs, 50 aluminium down-ceiling plates, aluminium and iron gates, windows, doors, and even door frames and taps.The three accused were caught when they returned to the marriage palace to steal more items. The village watchman heard a noise and informed the sarpanch, who called the police.The arrested accused are Jagpreet Singh of Sarpanch Colony, Lovepreet Singh of Manakwal village, and Vikramjit alias Bobby of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. An FIR has been lodged under sections 331(4) (house trespass), 305 (theft) and 3(5) (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the BNS on the complaint of watchman Balwinder Singh.

Balwinder Singh said he was on night duty in the village when he heard noise inside the locked marriage palace. He alerted the village sarpanch, who reached the spot with a few residents and informed the police.Police and village residents reached the marriage palace and found it ransacked. The accused, who were collecting more articles, were nabbed on the spot.Jagdev Singh, husband of village sarpanch Harjeet Kaur, said, “The marriage palace was built on panchayat land under a government scheme about five years ago. However, ever since it was built, it has never been rented out and has remained closed. The accused took advantage of this.”Investigating officer Head Constable Balwinder Singh of Sadar police station said the accused admitted to stealing items from the premises over the past few months. Police are trying to recover the stolen goods.
