Chandigarh: Marking the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Panjab University (PU) unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a march on the campus Sunday to honour soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.The march began from the department of evening studies and culminated at the Student Centre, with students, research scholars and faculty members participating in it. Carrying the tricolour, participants raised patriotic slogans and remembered the sacrifices made by the armed forces in safeguarding the nation.Speakers at the programme urged students to draw inspiration from the courage, dedication and patriotism displayed by the soldiers during the conflict.A special tribute was paid to Capt Vikram Batra, the Param Vir Chakra awardee and Panjab University alumnus, for his exceptional valour in the Kargil War. Participants also recalled his iconic slogan, “Yeh Dil Maange More”, which became synonymous with his battlefield heroics.The event concluded with participants taking a pledge to uphold national unity and keep alive the memory of the sacrifices made by soldiers in defence of the country’s sovereignty.
