Gurgaon: Nine persons suffered minor injuries after a cement mixer truck lost control on a downhill stretch of Gurgaon-Faridabad Road and rammed into several vehicles on Tuesday night, triggering a pile-up of 11 vehicles.The accident also led to a traffic jam that left commuters stranded for around two hours.The accident took place around 9.45pm. According to police, the truck’s brakes overheated and failed, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. It then crashed into several cars travelling ahead, damaging 11 vehicles in the pile-up.Nine persons in the cars that were damaged suffered injuries. They were taken to a hospital and were discharged after receiving first aid. “No complaint has been received in connection with the accident. Therefore, no case has been registered against the driver of the mixer truck and he has not been detained,” an officer said.The collision brought traffic movement on the busy road to a halt, with the resulting congestion extending for nearly 4km. Traffic was also affected at Ghata T-point and along Rajesh Pilot Marg while police were trying to remove the damaged vehicles from the road.

In another accident, a 30-year-old man was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit him while he was crossing a road near Hotel Lemon Tree on Mumbai-Sohna Highway on Tuesday evening. The driver fled the spot, leaving the injured man on the road.The deceased, Satish Kumar, was a resident of Kadarpur and an employee of Sandhar Technologies Limited in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. According to his brother’s complaint to police, Satish had finished his duty and was returning home when the accident took place around 7pm. He alleged the vehicle was being driven negligently.A passerby took Satish to Acropolis Hospital in Badshahpur but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said.“We have registered an FIR at Bhondsi police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of BNS,” an officer said.Police are checking CCTV footage and working to identify the vehicle and its driver.A 62-year-old man, Subhash, also died in a separate accident after a motorcycle hit him while he was walking home with his nephew near Rathiwas village on Tuesday afternoon. The rider, a resident of the same village, fled the spot after the crash, police said.Subhash’s nephew said they were walking back home after collecting Subhash’s pension from a bank in Bilaspur.Subhash was taken to SS Hospital in Bhiwadi and then to PGI Rohtak, where he died on Wednesday.
