Three held with opium worth ₹8.49L

Surat: Surat city police’s special operations group (SOG) arrested three men for allegedly selling opium in the Dindoli area and seized 1.698kg of the contraband, valued at Rs 8.49 lakh.Acting on a tip-off received by police inspector Atul Sonara, an SOG team raided a house in Dindoli. The suspects were identified as Bheraram Madharam Bishnoi (51), Mahendrasinh Ravatsinh Rajput (39) and Rugaram Sesharam Jat (42).According to police, the raid led to the seizure of the opium, Rs 4.01 lakh in cash, two mobile phones valued at Rs 40,000, an electronic weighing machine and 20 empty plastic pouches. The total value of the seized items was estimated at Rs 12.91 lakh.During questioning, the accused told police that they had purchased the opium from a wanted accused and were secretly selling it to retail customers in Dindoli.Police said the main accused, Bheraram Bishnoi, had previously been booked by the Surat SOG in a case registered at Godadara police station in 2021.
