Varanasi: A 65-year-old woman and her 22-year-old blind and mentally challenged daughter were found dead at different spotsunder Rasda police station of Ballia on Thursday morning, with police suspecting they were bludgeoned to death with a heavy object. Blood had also been cleaned from the house, suggesting an attempt to destroy evidence, police said.The body of Manasi, 65, of Sarai Bharati was found lying in a pool of blood inside her house. Later, her 22-year-old daughter Gauri was recovered from a field, just 30 metres from the residence. Ballia SP Omveer Singh said Ramchij Gupta, 70, his wife Manasi and daughter Gauri — lived in the house. The incident took place when Ramchij was away. A cot was found beyond a small boundary adjoining the house, while Gauri’s body was lying on the edge of a paddy field behind it.Officials said the scene indicated that the murders took place inside the house before the bodies were shifted. Police questioned Ramchij and checked for possible enmity, but he denied having any dispute. Household articles were reportedly undisturbed.The bodies were sent for postmortem, which police said would help establish the injuries and sequence of events.
