Gurgaon: Three years on, a Pocso court in Nuh has sentenced a man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict.The case dates back to Dec 23, 2023, when the 17-year-old girl had stepped out of her house to dispose of garbage, according to the prosecution. Police said the accused allegedly took her towards the hills on the pretext of helping her and raped her there. The complaint also alleged that two unidentified men with him assisted in the offence.The girl raised an alarm, following which a neighbour reached the spot and the accused fled, police said. A case was registered at Rozka Meo police station on the next day. Police arrested the accused and filed the case before the court after collecting evidence.Additional sessions judge and Pocso special court judge Dr Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan convicted the accused on the basis of evidence and witness testimony and pronounced the sentence on Wednesday.The convict was sentenced under relevant provisions of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of Pocso Act.Denying any leniency, the court observed that such persons accused of such a heinous crime against a minor should not be shown any leniency to send a strong message to society. The court awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.The court also ordered that in case of non-payment of the fine, the convict would undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
