Panaji: Goa police arrested two Pune men within 48 hours of registering a cyber fraud case involving the impersonation of a company CEO on WhatsApp and the fraudulent transfer of Rs 2 crore through RTGS.The cybercrime police station, Ribandar, registered an FIR after the accused allegedly used the CEO’s name and profile photograph on WhatsApp to induce the company’s accountant to transfer Rs 2 crore to multiple bank accounts.During the investigation, police traced the beneficiary accounts and money trail and immediately dispatched a team to Pune. Deepak Maske and Shyam Kasar, both from Pune, were apprehended from the Pune International Airport area at Lohegaon.The accused were brought to Goa and produced before the court. Further investigation is under way to trace the complete money trail and identify others involved in the cyber fraud network.Goa police advised businesses and the public to verify requests for large financial transactions received through WhatsApp, email or other digital platforms, and report suspected cyber fraud immediately to police or through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal
