Jaisalmer: A mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law were killed and five relatives seriously injured when an Eeco and a Swift collided head-on near Ratanpura village on Balotra-Jalore State Highway in Balotra Friday, police said.The deceased were identified as Bhavna (25), wife of Tejaram, and Amrudevi (40), wife of Hukmaram. They were residents of Mithda Khurd village in Dhorimanna.Gudamalani police ASI Loonaram said the seven family members were travelling in the Eeco to Kharnal in Nagaur district to offer prayers at Tejaji Maharaj temple when the Swift, coming from the opposite direction, collided with their vehicle.All seven Eeco occupants were seriously injured. People at the spot pulled them from the vehicle and took them to Barmer Hospital in a private vehicle. Amrudevi and Bhavna died during treatment, while the five others remain under treatment. Their condition is being monitored.The bodies have been kept in Barmer Hospital mortuary.According to Loonaram, the Swift’s occupants abandoned their vehicle and fled after the collision. Police removed both vehicles from the highway and took them into custody. An investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is under way.
