Chandigarh: Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal on Tuesday said laxity in crime control would invite departmental action, directing that non-performing SHOs be suspended.In a nearly three-hour video conference with senior police officers from across the state, Singhal reviewed the crime situation police station-wise and directed officers to move from routine compilation of crime figures to micro-level analysis and preventive policing.He ordered every SP, CP and senior supervisory officer to scrutinise crime patterns under their jurisdiction and identify the reasons behind any rise in particular offences. Accountability, he said, would extend beyond the SHO to the supervisory officer if crime continued to rise in a police station’s area.“Laxity, evasion of responsibility or poor performance in crime control will not be tolerated,” Singhal told officers, stressing that regular meetings with SHOs should be held to frame station-specific strategies based on local crime patterns.The DGP cited a 9.11% decline in total crime registered under the BNS compared with the previous year.Singhal directed officers to use CCTNS data for scientific analysis of crime trends and identify emerging hotspots and their underlying causes. He also emphasised monitoring even minor offences, arguing that timely intervention could prevent them from developing into serious or organised crimes.The DGP said a detailed police station-wise crime analysis, including reasons for any increase and action taken, would be sought at the next review meeting.Cybercrime also came under scrutiny, with Singhal directing officers to expedite pending complaints and investigations, convert eligible complaints into FIRs, arrest cyber offenders and focus on freezing and recovering defrauded money. Timely return of recovered funds to victims, he said, must remain a priority.
