Kurukshetra: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said education was not merely a means to acquire literacy or a degree, but a force that instils self-confidence, builds character, develops a sense of duty and inspires dedication to the nation.He was speaking at a condolence ceremony organised at DBS International Public School, Ladwa, in Kurukshetra district, to mark the 22nd death anniversary of Swami Devendra Swaroop Brahmachari. CM paid floral tribute to the spiritual leader’s statue and inaugurated an auditorium hall. He also honoured saints and religious leaders by presenting them shawls, while Swami Hari Chetananand and Professor Ramesh Kumar Pandey were presented awards.CM Saini paid tribute to Swami Brahmachari’s penance, spiritual discipline, sacrifice and commitment to human welfare, describing him as a visionary whose thoughts continued to inspire society even after his death.He said Swami Ji had deeply studied Hindu scriptures but believed their true value lay in putting their teachings into practice. He took Vedic knowledge to schools, promoted the philosophy of Karma Yoga through public service and worked to pass Indian cultural values to younger generations. A strong advocate of the Gurukul system, he sought to combine traditional learning with modern education.According to CM Saini, Swami Ji’s commitment to service was reflected in the institutions established under his guidance, including two Sanskrit colleges, three Vedic schools, a girls’ college and a school.CM said Shri Jairam Vidyapeeth, established in Kurukshetra in 1977, had played an important role in promoting Vedic education, Sanskrit, religion, culture and national spirit, with thousands of its students serving society in different fields.He particularly highlighted Seth Navrang Rai Lohia Jairam Girls’ College, established on 22 acres at Lohar Majra, saying Swami Ji had made women’s education and empowerment a priority when girls’ education did not receive adequate importance.CM Saini said Swami Ji regarded service to humanity as an essential expression of religion. During Partition, he served refugees in Kurukshetra and later contributed to relief efforts during Chinese and Pakistani attacks, Haryana floods and the Uttarkashi earthquake. He also worked for environmental protection and cow service.He said today’s children, equipped with modern technology but rooted in Indian values, were fulfilling Swami Ji’s vision by excelling in science, technology, education, administration, sports and other fields.Former Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma, former minister JP Dalal, former minister of state Subhash Sudha and other prominent citizens attended the programme.Ends
