Varanasi: Police arrested three members of an inter-district theft gang following separate encounters at different locations in Azamgarh on Thursday night. Two of the accused sustained bullet injuries during exchanges of fire and were admitted to hospital for treatment. Police also recovered yellow-metal items, a motorcycle, illegal firearms, cartridges and cash from their possession.According to police, an encounter took place between the Tarwan police and the accused near the Kanchanpur canal under the Tarwan police station limits. One of the accused, Mukesh Yadav, 25, a resident of the Bhanwarkol police station area of Ghazipur district, was arrested in an injured condition after being shot in the leg. His associate, Kamlesh, also a resident of the same area, was arrested at the spot. Another accused managed to escape under the cover of darkness.Following the escape, nearby police stations were alerted to trace and arrest the absconding accused, Vikas Yadav, 22, a resident of the Bhanwarkol police station area of Ghazipur district. During a cordon-and-search operation near the Katihan canal culvert under the Mehnagar police station limits, Vikas Yadav was arrested in an injured condition after being shot in the leg during an encounter with the Mehnagar police.The injured accused have been sent to hospital for treatment.Police recovered yellow-metal items, a motorcycle, illegal firearms, cartridges and cash from the possession of the accused. The field unit is carrying out necessary proceedings at the spot, and further legal action is underway.
