Pune: Bhosari MIDC police on Thursday night registered a case of abetment of suicide against the in-laws of Sonali Gaikwad (23), who died by suicide at her house in Moshi on Wednesday evening. Sonali was the wife of Nagesh Gaikwad, who was killed in the Moshi garbage depot tragedy. Her father, Lobhaji Vakte (45), of Georai in Beed district, lodged a complaint with the police.An officer from the Bhosari MIDC police said a month after her husband’s death, Sonali died by suicide at her house in Gandhinagar, Moshi, on Wednesday evening. Her father stated in his complaint that her in-laws had been harassing her since her marriage. They allegedly taunted her for not having a son. “After Gaikwad’s accidental death, the family received compensation of Rs10 lakh. The complainant alleged that his daughter’s in-laws used to abuse her over share of the money,” the officer said.The officer said the complainant stated that his daughter had been under stress following her husband’s death. She could not bear the alleged harassment and died by suicide. She is survived by two daughters.A case has been registered under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Sonali’s in-laws, brother-in-law, his wife, sister-in-law and her husband. “Our investigation is underway,” the officer said.
