Hyderabad: A 50-year-old mason died and his son was injured after a four-wheeler hit their bike from behind near the Kondapur RTO office on Monday morning. The accused driver, allegedly drunk at the time of the crash, was arrested.Police said that around 5.30am, a Thar driven by P Abhinay (30), an unemployed man from Vijayawada, hit the victims’ bike as they were travelling from Hafeezpet to Gachibowli. Owing to the impact of the collision, the bike rider, Ch Shiva Kumar (30), a private-sector employee, and his father, Ch Srinivasulu (50), a mason from Wanaparthy district, were thrown onto the road.“While Srinivasulu suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, Shiva Kumar suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital,” said Madhapur SI Krishnaiah.Alerted by locals, Madhapur police reached the spot and took Abhinay into custody. “He later tested positive for drunk driving when he was subjected to a breathalyser test,” the SI said.Police initially registered a case under Section 106(1) of the BNS (causing death by a negligent act) and Section 125(a) of the BNS (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) .“Since he has been found drunk, Section 106(1) will be altered to Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder),” a senior official said.
