Hyderabad: Eight Class 10 students of a private school in Dammaiguda, Jawaharnagar, have been booked for physical assault after their 15-year-old classmate was found injured in the school’s hostel following a quarrel that allegedly broke over a lewd comment about the sister of one of the accused.The Jawaharnagar police have also booked the school management for alleged negligence in handling the incident.According to police, the victim, a Class 10 student, had allegedly passed a lewd comment about the sister of one of the boys on August 7. This led to a quarrel between him and the group, with both sides allegedly abusing each other in the classroom. The matter subsequently subsided.However, around 1am the same night, the eight boys allegedly went to the hostel building where the victim was staying, armed with sticks, and confronted him, police said. “During the altercation, they allegedly assaulted him severely with sticks and fists, including stomping on his face. He had also retaliated but was left with severe injuries,” said Mohd Idris Ali, investigating officer and sub-inspector of Jawaharnagar police station.Photographs of the boy shared by the police show extensive bruising and discolouration across his back and shoulders, bruises on both arms and around the elbow, swelling and bruising around the shoulder and knee, and injuries around the eye. He also had a prominent red patch in the white of his eye.Police said the boy did not immediately disclose the assault. The next morning, he informed the school management and was moved to a private hospital for treatment. According to the SI, the boy had initially told them that he had fallen from a staircase and had not disclosed the assault.The boy was subsequently taken to a private hospital, following which his parents were informed. The parents took him to Kamareddy for treatment and later returned to Hyderabad. They approached Jawaharnagar police and lodged a complaint on Monday.The parents, however, alleged that the school management was aware that the boy had been assaulted but deliberately withheld the information from them and told them that he had fallen from the staircase. Further probe in the case is underway.
