15-year-old drowns in water-filled trench in Dighi

Pune: Fifteen-year-old Ashwet Bhosale was out playing near his Dighi residence on Saturday afternoon when he drowned to death in a water-filled trench.The class nine boy from a private school in the area had returned home early that fatal afternoon, after the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession —on its way from Pandharpur to Alandi— arrived, prompting an early school closure, a Dighi police officer said.“Bhosale came home and later went out with his friends to play near the trench,” the officer said. He entered the water-filled trench while playing and began drowning. Some women present tried to rescue him but failed. Bhosale’s body was recovered later, Dighi police, who have registered a case of accidental death, said.Bhosale is survived by his mother, a conservancy staffer at a private hospital, and an elder brother, police said.
