AAPSU sets Aug 15 deadline on Arunachal’s 80:20 job quota, threatens 12-hour bandh

Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Monday gave the state govt an August 15 deadline to place the 80:20 job reservation issue before the state cabinet, failing which it threatened to enforce a 12-hour statewide bandh on Aug 17.The announcement came after a meeting of the High-Powered Committee (HPC) at the civil secretariat here. AAPSU participated in the meeting as a special invitee.AAPSU president Meje Taku said the union had made its position clear before the committee and reiterated its demand for abolition of the existing 80:20 reservation ratio in the state govt recruitment.“We have made our stand clear to the govt. The issue must be taken up by the cabinet by August 15, failing which AAPSU will enforce a 12-hour statewide bandh on Aug 17 as the first phase of our democratic agitation,” Taku said.
