Goat row turns fatal; villager dies 10 days after assault, man heldLucknow: A seemingly minor dispute over a goat allegedly straying onto a village road turned deadly in Lucknow’s Banthra area, with police arresting a 35-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a villager who later succumbed to his injuries.The accused, Mahipal Rawat, was arrested in connection with the death of Jitendra Kumar (32), a resident of Mavai Padiyana village. Police have booked him under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.According to police, the incident occurred on June 27 when Jitendra was riding his motorcycle through the village. An argument broke out after his bike allegedly brushed against a goat being taken for grazing by Mahipal’s nephew, Anish.SHO Rana Rajesh Kumar Singh said the verbal altercation quickly escalated. Hearing the commotion, Mahipal reached the spot. During the confrontation, Mahipal and his nephew allegedly assaulted Jitendra.During questioning, Mahipal allegedly admitted that he picked up a mango-wood stick lying nearby and struck Jitendra on the head in a fit of rage. The victim suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to GSRM Hospital before being shifted to a private hospital for treatment.Though he was later brought home by his family, Jitendra died from his injuries. Acting on a complaint lodged by his father, Ramkumar Rawat, police registered a case, arrested Mahipal and produced him before a court. The role of Anish is also under investigation.
