Dibrugarh: Charaideo women’s cooperative societies on Saturday were urged to use social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, at an awareness programme at the district commissioner’s office to expand their market for handloom and textile products. The programme, held under the special cooperative week celebration, and chaired by district commissioner Neha Yadav, saw members of the cooperative societies attend discussions on govt schemes, marketing opportunities and digital outreach.Officials said an active social media presence would help artisans reach customers beyond local markets, reduce dependence on middlemen and improve profit margins.Yadav said handloom was a key source of identity and livelihood for women in the district and stressed on the need for cooperative societies to learn online marketing to connect directly with buyers within and outside the state. While participants were briefed on registration procedures for schemes and on accessing support for raw materials, equipments and product development, they cited limited digital literacy and difficulties in reaching wider markets as key challenges.
