Woman held for allegedly extorting Rs 90 lakh by threatening false rape case
A 24-year-old MBA graduate was arrested for allegedly extorting around Rs 90 lakh from a man by threatening to implicate him in a false rape case

Gurgaon: A 24-year-old MBA graduate from West Bengal has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing a man and extorting around Rs 90 lakh from him over nearly three years by threatening to implicate him in a false rape case and harm his family.Police arrested Suryadita Das, who was residing in Sushant Lok, after Ankit Aggarwal approached Sadar police station on Oct 4. Police said they recovered Rs 50,000 in cash from her and have frozen approximately Rs 95 lakh lying in her bank account.Police sources said the complainant, Ankit Aggarwal, works in a private company. He had met Das around three years ago through an online app. They initially communicated through online chats, later exchanged phone numbers and began meeting in person. He alleged that Das later started blackmailing him and demanding money. She allegedly threatened to implicate him in a false rape case and to harm his family if her demands were not met.The complainant told police that he had already paid approximately Rs 90 lakh through a combination of bank transfers and cash payments, but the demands for more money continued. After receiving the complaint on Oct 4, police from Sadar police station formed a team and planned an operation to catch the accused while she collected another payment.According to police, Das had called Aggarwal to Coffee House on Sohna Road in Sector 47 to collect money. The police team reached the location in plain clothes and kept the proceedings under surveillance.Das was apprehended while allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 in cash from the complainant. Police said the money was recovered from her during the search. Some of the recovered currency notes bore signatures or initials that had been put on them earlier by the police team as part of the operation.A case was registered against Das at Sadar police station under section 308 (5) (extortion) of BNS. Police produced her before the court on Oct 4, 2026, and obtained two days’ police remand.
