Ahmedabad: A departmental inquiry into alleged malpractice in a CCC examination conducted by Gujarat Technological University (GTU) for govt employees has dragged on for nearly two years, with authorities yet to reach a conclusion.The alleged irregularity surfaced after results of an examination conducted around two years ago showed that marks of 39 employees who had reportedly failed were increased, enabling them to qualify.The matter came to light after the head of the concerned department lodged a complaint. During scrutiny, name of university’s IT system analyst, Keyur Shah, reportedly emerged in connection with the alleged manipulation. The university suspended Shah and initiated a departmental inquiry instead of filing a police complaint.Sources said the inquiry has continued for nearly two years. The probe committee recently summoned Shah for questioning. However, despite the prolonged probe, the committee has reportedly been unable to establish the complete chain of events or arrive at a final conclusion.With Shah’s suspension continuing for an extended period, the university has now increased his subsistence allowance from 50% to 75% of his salary, as per applicable rules. His suspension has also been extended by another six months.Questions have been raised over the pace and scope of the inquiry. Despite the alleged manipulation involving nearly 39 employees, sources said those whose marks were reportedly altered have not yet been summoned before the committee for questioning.The university has also not publicly disclosed details of the action taken so far in the alleged malpractice case.University authorities, however, maintained that the increase in subsistence allowance and extension of Shah’s suspension were undertaken in accordance with rules.
