Pune: A multi-vehicle accident claimed two lives when a truck rammed into a sports utility vehicle, which caused the SUV to hit a motorcycle around 5pm at Pashanmala on the Shirur bypass on the Pune-Nagar highway on Tuesday evening.An engineer on the motorcycle and a businessman driving the SUV were killed. The Pune Rural police identified the deceased as the businessman Kishor Yadav (38), a resident of Wadegavhan in Ahilyanagar district, and the motorcyclist Prathamesh Lad (30), a resident of Shirur who hailed from Sangli district.Lad was working with a private company in Shirur. Lad, who was riding the motorcycle, had stopped near a puncture repair outlet on the Pune-Nagar highway to cross the road.Yadav had come to Shirur for some work and was returning to Wadegavhan in his SUV. The accident occurred when Yadav slowed down near the puncture outlet to take a U-turn. The driver of the truck behind the SUV could not control the vehicle and rammed into the SUV. The SUV then hit Lad’s motorcycle, and both vehicles veered into the opposite lane of the highway.“An MSRTC e-bus travelling to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar hit the motorcycle and the SUV,” the officer said. He said Lad died after getting trapped between the bus and the SUV. Yadav also died on the spot.“The driver of the truck that hit the SUV did not stop after the accident,” he said. The officer said the bodies were handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem. “We have registered a case of accidental death against the truck driver,” he said.
