Varanasi: Three elderly people, including a couple, died and one person was injured after two mud houses collapsed due to heavy rain in Mirzapur district late Wednesday. The administration has announced a financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each from the disaster relief fund for the affected families.According to reports, 68-year-old Ramashankar Singh Patel and his wife, Ashok Kumari, 68, were sleeping in their thatched mud house in Rajauha village of Madihan tehsil when the wall and roof collapsed around 11 pm. Villagers pulled them out of the debris nearly two and a half hours later and rushed them to CHC Madihan, where they were declared dead.In Thapanwa village under Babhani police station limits, a mud house collapsed around 1 am. Hiralal, 65, and his wife, Kevli Devi, 60, were trapped under the debris. Villagers rescued them in the morning and took them to hospital, where Kevli was declared dead. Hiralal was referred to CHC Madihan in serious condition.Madihan SDM Santosh Kumar Ojha said the families would receive Rs 4 lakh each in relief. The administration would also investigate why the victims had not received benefits under the Pradhan Mantri or CM housing schemes. Residents have been advised not to stay in mud houses during heavy rain and to move to safer locations..
